Every big change starts with little steps. Here are a couple you can take right now.

It’s Not About Efficiency. It’s About the Future.

Protecting public lands is sewn into the fabric of who we are. In fact, doing so goes back over 150 years. Since then, 433 national parks and monuments, plus a host of national forests and watersheds have been protected. But, these lands are now at risk more than they ever have been before. Due to recent budget cuts, thousands of parks workers have been fired and funding to keep these places pristine has been slashed.

Together we can Protect Our Parks! Simply put, we’re here to raise awareness of the impact of recent National Park and Forest service workforce cuts while inspiring as many people as possible to take action. So, here’s to adventuring. Here’s to keeping nature wild. Here’s to using our voices for places that can’t speak for themselves. Here’s to bringing people together to show support for the people that maintain beautiful places and the places themselves. Here’s to protecting our parks!

Here’s How you can help

Gear bag symbolizing preparedness and service in public lands.

1. Pack In,
Pack Out

In times like these, it’s important to keep the spirit of adventure alive and well. But, we must do so responsibly, like discarding our waste properly and leaving nature better than we found it, so everyone can enjoy the outdoors.

2. Know before you go

Unfortunately, there are now fewer park workers and staff to help you get around safely and find the places you seek. Luckily, there are things like maps, compasses, weather reports, and GPS. So, do yourself a favor and know before you go. Because getting happily lost in nature is better than being found in a bad situation.

3. Take care of our lands

Another great thing we can do is to champion our public lands and parks by being great stewards of the places we love. Like paying close attention to fire restrictions and rules, following sound environmental practices, and giving as much to nature as it gives to us.

4. Use your voice

Lastly, use your voice! Have face-to-face conversations with those around you and share the importance of protecting our parks and public spaces. Spread good information (like this!) on social media for more than a few to see. And, don’t forget to contact your representatives – after all, it’s their job to listen to you!
